Flash (.swf) File Association

Issue:
If you click a link to display a Flash module and you get prompted to "Open or Save." This means your pc doesn't know which program to use to play the flash .swf file.

Solution:
First of all, ensure you have already installed the Macromedia Flash player.

Depending upon the Windows operating system you have (hopefully Win 2000 or XP), you will need to access "My Computer" (sample screen below).

This will display "My Computer." Click the "Tools" menu and "Folder Options" (shown below).

Now, click the tab that says "File Types" -- this will display a list of all the file types on your pc.  Scroll down and locate "SWF" and click on it. If the "Details for 'SWF' extension shows any program other than "Internet Explorer" or "Macromedia Flash Player 7" you will need to change it by clicking on the "Change" button shown below.

This will display the "Open With" dialog box (shown below). Locate either the "Internet Explorer" or the "Flash Player" -- whichever is displayed in the list and click OK. Then click the "Close" button on the screen above and return to the FCU eLearning center and click on the Flash module link again. This should display the module correctly.

Contact your IT person for assistance in making this file association if need be.
