FCU Instructions...

Click on “Login to eLearning” link from the FCU homepage. It is here that you will access all FCU training materials, including the interactive eLearning modules featuring Dr. David Kohl as your instructor.

When you login to the FCU eLearning Center site, you will be able to see the "My Classes" window, containing a list of the courses (or modules) you are enrolled in. You will complete them in the order listed on the Curriculum Overview sheet, having two to three weeks to complete all assignments for each module, depending upon the curriculum you are attending.

Each module includes:

  • Flash audio/visual interactive content: Accessed by clicking on blue link under "Location" column, e.g. LL01 Flash. Macromedia Flash Player is required to view Flash modules. See instructions on the Functionality and Technology page of the FCU Web site. Each Flash module takes 30-60 minutes to view depending upon the subject matter.

  • Text version of content: You can view this content from the Flash module by clicking on the "Print" button in the lower right corner of the Flash module screen. The content of the text version is the same as the content presented in the Flash module. The text version is provided for reference and to minimize any note taking you may do.

  • Module test: After going through the Flash module, and studying the text, you must take a test on the material you've learned.

    • The "Test Now" link takes you to the multiple choice and true/false online test. Choose the correct answer for each question by clicking on the "radio button" next to the answer choice. When you are finished, click the "Grade Now" link at the top or bottom of the test to receive your test grade instantaneously. An 80% score is a passing grade. The test is not timed.

    • If you score below 80%, you should review the content of the module again, and retest. Tests are randomized to prevent taking the same test each time. You must score at least 80% before you can continue with the next module. The "Retest link" is located on your "My Classes" screen.

  • Class Rating: The "Class Rating" link is located at the top left of your graded test, or you can click on the link under "Class Rating" column from your "My Classes" screen. Use this link to rate the module you have just tested on. Your feedback on the modules helps us to improve the course, so please feel free to let us know what you think in the "Comment" section. Click "Save & Up" to return to the "My Classes" screen. Clicking the "Save & Up " symbol always takes you back to the previous screen. Remember to use this button instead of clicking "Back" on your web browser in order to save your work.

  • Application Exercises: Your mentor will assign you one to two application exercises to complete for each module. These could be discussion questions or may require some research or an interview. You can view a list of application exercises by clicking on the "Application Exercises" link found at the end of the Flash module or the "View/Print Application Exercises” link on your “My Classes” screen in the FCU eLearning Management System.

    • Please complete the exercises assigned to you, discuss your answer(s) with your mentor, and then post your answer in the eLearning Center, using the "Application Exercise" link on your "My Classes" screen. You may complete your written answer in Microsoft Word or Excel, and then copy and paste it into the application exercises text box online, or just type in the text box provided.

    • Remember to click "Save & Close" when you're finished. If you need to go back to add something to your answer later, you can click on the "Application Exercise" link again, from the "My Classes" screen and make changes.

  • FCU Forum: As part of your training, we have enrolled you in the FCU Forum, an online resource for you to use to communicate with your peers. You need to post a reply to the forum question for each module as you go. The Forum Administrator will be monitoring the forum and checking you off as you post your response for each module question. You also must reply to at least one of your classmates’ responses.

    • Access the FCU Forum by clicking on the word "FORUM" in the Farm Credit University Banner at the top of the eLearning Center screen. Once there, use the "Quick Login" fields in the top right corner of the screen, using the same username and password you use to access the eLearning Center.

After you log into the FCU Forum, wait a moment, and the main page for the FCU Forum will display. Locate Module 1 under the start date for your training listed on the left side of the screen and click on the link. You should now see a link to "Module 1 Discussion Forum Question" to view the Module 1 question. Click on "New Topic" on the upper right side to post your response to the question. Repeat this process for each module.

To reply to another trainee's post, just type in your response in the "Post Reply" box following that trainee's post. Every time another user replies to your posts, you will receive an email message letting you know someone has replied to your post.

    • Use the "Help" icon in the top right of the screen to familiarize yourself with using the FCU Forum (it is very easy). We hope you find the FCU Forum a valuable resource tool for interacting with other trainees from this point forward.

Once you have completed the steps of a module, you may start on the next module in your curriculum. The FCU Administrator will monitor your progress and inform you if assignments have not been turned in by the due date, which is the last day of the two or three week period assigned for each module.

Consult the "Training Schedule" for your class to determine when to work on each module in your curriculum. Please stay on schedule and do not work ahead or get left behind. The training experience is optimized when the class keeps the same pace.

If you have any questions on any facet of this eLearning process, please do not hesitate to e-mail the FCU Administrator, Alicia Morris and she will be happy to help you.

After you completed the modules in a particular curriculum, you will analyze a comprehensive final case study, and we would like you to complete a survey to assist us in improving Farm Credit University. Let us know about aspects you like or suggestions for improvement. Your feedback is welcomed, encouraged and truly appreciated. Enjoy your FCU eLearning experience!
